At least we're mixing things up. After three straight blowouts, the Vikings lost in the closing minute for the third time this season. Thanks for the questions. Let's roll ...
Not yet. Lot of bad teams in this league. Even the good ones depending on injuries and where the game is played.
They can't stray too far from what they've been doing since training camp. If they overdo coaching changes, then everyone would complain because the players are confused. But throwing the football after Jefferson's pick and rushing only three on the Cowboys' winning drive were bad decisions.
No, I don't think he'll be back. I think they've reached their conclusion on him. I think it will be Freeman
Nothing would surprise me. It's reaching that point.
Yes, the Vikings have said it was the right call because Jennings was open and that the throw was just a "hair" off. But this is the third time this season the Vikings have needed Ponder to make a critical throw in the four-minute offense to run out the clock. And so far, he's been three hairs off.
I don't think Frazier has lost the locker room. They Vikings are still playing hard. If he had lost the locker room, they wouldn't have been so mad after the game. But I do think there needs to be some conversations about some of what the coordinators are calling. And I don't think both Leslie and Rick will be gone after the year.
Safety doesn't come with 1-7, no matter what anyone says.
2 million bucks to the rest of us is a lot. 2 million bucks for a QB is walking-around money, especially if the Vikings are able to get a feel for whether Freeman can be their franchise QB. They're working on that. Obviously, he wasn't ready against the Giants.
No. If Ponder plays well Thursday and the Vikings win, he'll keep playing. To do anything different would make a bad situation even more silly.
Yes. Raymond had one of the worst games by a safety I've seen in a long time. He consistently took bad angles and missed tackles.
I think Ponder does operate better when the game is moving faster. If it were me, I'd have him running more. That's his strength by far.
Spielman did not say that. He said "Leslie Frazier is not going anywhere" when asked if Frazier would make it through the season. He also didn't put any time frame on his statement. So he definitely didn't say safe for 2014.
If that's the problem, how do you describe winning 10 games and making the playoffs last year?
I have to think Jon knows his genius can only go down once he leaves the booth. I'm sure if he ever did leave the booth, it would be for the perfect situation, which this isn't.
I think Josh Freeman went out and completed 37.7 percent of his passes. When you want a guy to make the back-shoulder throw, you're not talking about him hitting the back shoulder of a fan in the third row. I think Freeman re-set the time table when he played so poorly and then got hurt.
It sounds illogical to us, but the Vikings are just trying to win games. If your job was on the line this year, would you be thinking about next year's team?
I think everyone should share the blame in years like this and the credit in years like 2012. Remember, these same two guys would being widely hailed just a year ago.
Yes, I think the players do still care. Which is saying something because it would be easy to pack it in at this point.
Craig Johnson has coached a lot of successful QBs during his career. He can help.
Well, if they were still 100 percent committed to that thinking, Freeman never would have been signed.
I think Rick has had hits and misses, like all GMs. No one was complaining about picking Peterson, Harvin, Harrison Smith, trading down and still getting Kalil and the draft-day trade that netted Jared Allen. Yeah, he reached for Ponder, but he was at a point where the Vikings needed to draft a quarterback. He took a shot. Ponder did help the Vikings to the playoffs a year ago. We all forget that. When you need a QB, you swing until you land a QB. Getting Freeman could end up being the right swing. It will take time for that to unfold.
Could be. Of course, most of us thought that a while ago. But then Cassel played poorly in a 35-10 loss to Carolina. Then Freeman got concussed. There are no blanket statements in the NFL. No one has any idea how this will shake out.
