After Ben, Meyers and Carr will have the next two picks.
I asked Sid what his favorite sports movie was and he said anything with Buster Keaton.
I almost took Miracle in Round 1, and would have taken it here if it'd still been around. But instead, I'm picking between two baseball movies here, and going with another extremely quotable movie that takes on a new level of humor on TV, thanks to the fact they made ABSOLUTELY NO ATTEMPT to make the cleaned-up dialogue match up with the character's mouths. Major League it is.
Forget the curveball, Ricky.
Ben avoids a football movie for the second straight round. Naila is up.
Juuuust a bit later than I thought it would be picked.
Ben how did you feel about the producers of Major League II switching out Wesley Snipes for Omar Epps and expecting us all to be okay with it?
Wow. Major League might be a little out over its skis as a second round pick, but it was a crowd pleaser.
If Ben hadn't taken "Major League," I might have taken it here. Or I would have still done this: sticking with baseball and choosing "A League of Their Own."
Out over its skis? Don't tell me you're picking Eddie the Eagle next, are you LaVelle?
Fun Facts: A League of Their Own has a song by Carole King in it. "Now and Forever." Also, Carole for a long time dated Phil Alden Robinson, the writer/director of "Field of Dreams."
That was my pick, Naila! That might force me to take a non-baseball movie!
Many people say "A League of Their Own" is one of those films that you always stop and watch for 10 minutes while channel surfing. Agree?
If you didn't think I'd find a way to reference Carole King in a sports movie draft ... you were sorely mistaken.
What's the delay? Do we have a trade?
We're awaiting Chris Carr ... and hoping he hasn't been called to weightier matters in his role as sports editor of this operation. But what could be more important than this?
La Velle is also getting ready for the Star Tribune fantasy bourbon draft.
Remember the Titans! A super young, star turn by Ryan Gossling. Not to mention the future Avon Barksdale!
I'm sticking with baseball! It was only recently that the trash can-banging Astros put a black eye on the sport nearly as big as the one it suffered 100 years ago. I'm taking Eight Men Out.
Oh, man. A depressing pick from La Velle. But a fine one. Jeff Day is up, followed by Chris Hine, who has been in consultation with his legal team., we're told. Then Megan Ryan will start Round 3 of this 5-rounder.
Impressed with La Velle's choices. Have to be honest, the only movie we watched at the condo in Fort Myers together was one of the Transformer classics. What acting!
I am going to draft one of the greatest basketball movies ever made, one of the most prescient sports movies ever made, and one of the greatest acting performances by an athlete...He Got Game.
Denzel Washington makes his second Round 2 appearance.
Had that at No. 13 Jeff ... Ray Allen as Jesus Shuttlesworth was spot on.
As far as we're concerned .... maybe, Charlie.
Who's doing a shot every time the word Charlie appears on screen? Anybody? Just me and La Velle??
I need to know more about Charlie, and I believe when Chris has to make two picks maybe Charlie takes a swing?
ANARCHY! IT'S ANARCHY IN THE DRAFT ROOM!
