Welcome back to another hockey season folks, and here we go
He's 21, so bona fide star is tough to expect this year, especially when he's on a line with another 21-year-old trying to find his true game and Dany Heatley, who is on downside of his career (although he looks real good). But I think he's got the ability to take a serious step toward that
Because if he's not playing, why waste (prorated) 700K on the cap for no reason? The Wild went over the cap last year because of injuries and Brodin's bonuses. Every cent counts, especially if the Wild wants to make an acquisition later this season. Iowa a relative stone's throw from St. Paul if/when they need players
Way too early to say for certain, but he's raw yet talented. My sense is they want him to stay this year and develop here, but that obviously depends on how he plays when he plays.
I think he has that potential. He's a goal scorer. Just the way he roofs shots and picks corners from in tight.
It sounds like that's the goal
I think it's a concern, yes....That's why I still thing there's a place for Rupp if he can return at some point. I thought there was a chance the Wild would try to beef up on waivers the other day, but they obviously weren't interested in any of the guys available
That could be him, haha. The objective for him has to be to find consistency. Away from the puck, he's rarely bad. With the puck at times, his decision-making is very dubious to say the least. I think he still can be a player, but he's got to figure out the answer to his sometimes erratic play. I think working with Wilson and Sydor for a full year should help him
Great question, and yes. Right now, I have no doubt the Wild will pursue him next summer, and I have little doubt he would want to play here. But that's right now. A lot can change in a year. Vanek could get hurt, he could have a bad year. Or one of the kids could develop into that natural goal scorer the Wild's so looking for (Coyle? Nino?), and if that occurs, maybe that changes next summer's plan
The reality is one reason why they let Cullen go was to open a door to put kids on the team and in that role. It wasn't so much the first year of Cullen's term that the Wild was hesitant on but maybe the second and potential of a third.
I can't say because he didn't tell me, but use your imagination...It's not hard guesses. Just look at some of the guys that have left the past few years
Downtown is the place to be
For his sake, I hope not...If his career in the NHL is going to continue, he needs a chance elsewhere
To turn into a top 6 forward
It's going to be one of the big things to watch this season. You can't turn a player into something he's not
It should be noticeable, but you also have to take what your opponent gives you. If a team like LA tonight is constantly standing up at the blue line, you can't just stubbornly continue to try to skate it in and turn the puck over. There's a time that all teams have to dump the puck. But it was definitely more noticeable throughout the postseason that dumping didn't always seem to be the first option. It will be a work in progress though. It all has to do with good exits coming out of their own zone and generating speed through the neutral zone. And there too, a team like LA loves to clog that area up
That's obviously a possibility. I think Yeo is going to be quicker to change things up this year, and you are right, Parise has said he likes playing with multiple centers. I think one thing Yeo probably should have done in the playoffs was try Cullen and Parise together. Hopefully, the top line clicks, but if not, coaches have to adjust and I think Yeo was just hesitant during an odd year to change a lot of last year because teams just never practiced in such a condensed schedule
He also said 4 minutes before Pominville extension announced that he wouldn't worry about negotiating during the year.
I think top lines like that should be close to a point a game
I'm not good at guessing this type of stuff. I'll just say this: I'd think you need 215 goals to get in...Those three have to score
Well, I woke up at 4 a.m. So I 2 at home and probably 2 here at the rink...I know, I've got an issue
