The majority of Twin Cities metro school districts called off school for a second day Tuesday – good news for the kids whose Christmas break just got even longer.

The latest weather story from the Associated Press is pretty grim. It begins:"Temperatures were expected to plummet further Monday, bringing dangerous cold to parts of the U.S. still digging out from heavy snow that fell a day before and made travel treacherous.
Hazardous conditions in many states led to canceled flights and prompted warnings from transportation officials about venturing out onto the roads: Only those who absolutely need to should leave their homes."

Fallout from the Arctic chill? The Associated Press has put together its top five list. Here's the short version:
1. Cold outside? You're not alone. Nearly 187 million people, more than half of the nation's population, were under a wind chill warning or advisory.
2. Fly away from the weather? Think again. More than 3,700 flights — around one out of every 10 domestic departures — were canceled by Monday afternoon.
3. Ground travel disrupted, too. Amtrak. Buses. Commuter trains Cars, trucks and other vehicles.
4. Storm leaves thousands in the dark. Widespread power outages were being blamed on the storm, including in Indiana, where crews worked late Monday to restore services for more than 30,000 customers.
5. Frostbite, hypothermia. Lots of people treated at hospitals.
