Whew! Having some computer issues down here but I think I'm ready to start answering questions. Thanks for stopping by!
Good question. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said yesterday that a 13-man staff on Opening Day is possible, but a reliever could still end up being nudged out if the club wants to keep two or three of those pitchers. And what it Kyle Gibson outpitches them in camp? The best players don't always make a team, the healthy ones and the ones out of options do. But you'd be surprised how often these things work themselves out.....
Another year removed from Tommy John surgery, Pelfrey should be better in 2014. He showed some improve during the second half of last season when he regularly hit 94 on the gun. I'm encouraged by the fact that he's going to try to mix in a splitter, because he needs to get hitters off his fastball/slider combo
No, offense has been the big question since the signings of Nolasco and Hughes. I don't see the Twins adding a bat. They gave their final 40-man spot to....another pitcher. The key to the offense will be if 1. Aaron Hicks makes the team and makes adjustments. 2. The development of Oswaldo Arica. 3. The health of Josh Willingham and 4. Plouffe stepping up at third.
I would like to see Mauer try third base. He's agile, has great hands and a strong arm.
Maybe in September. It's up to Buxton. If he improves this year like he did last year, he could debut by the end of the season.
Lineup in September I'd like to see:
1. Hicks. 2.Buxton. 3. Mauer. 4. Sano
They are desperate for something to sell. They root harder than fans for the club to sign impact free agents
My guess was Johan Santana. It might have been Matt Guerrier!
This pitching staff, especially the rotation, should be more dependable than last season. That should keep the team in more games and lead to more wins. They are not a playoff team, but you want to see how much better then can get before the wave of talent hits.
This question comes after the Twins spent $72 million on pitching during the offseason.....
Doubtful. Twins don't want to lose draft pick. And their 40-man roster is full. (although they could designate someone if they really wanted to).
I'm enamored with Aaron Hicks' talent. I want to see how he gets up off the ground after being knocked down last season. He needs to make this team.
If not Mauer, the I think it will be Dozier. Not much to choose from here....Even if Hicks makes the team I'd start him at the bottom of the lineup and let him work his way up.
Love the guy, but it's a long shot. Especially if Willingham DH's more. Not sure he could handle a pinch hitting role.
Your new first baseman. The third base position. Arcia.
As of today, I'm going 74-88. They should not lose 90-plus games again. The rotation is too good for that.
Stevie Tomatos in Fort Myers. Shoeless Joe's in the Radisson Hotel. And I'm big on the Beached Whale on Fort Myers Beach, especially if you get a spot on the roof deck...
I will have a Johan Santana update on the blog by 2 p.m.
I think Kurt Suzuki will. But Pinto will get playing time. He's hitting some bombs down here in batting practice.
They need to focus in on a third pitch. He's got the heater and a good curveball. He needs to perfect his slider or his change. Andy might get him to sink and run the ball more too. I'm guessing change up right now.
